Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!
Wise Wonder Enrichment is gearing up for a few more classes before the official start of the holiday season. We love this time of year. It’s so nice to take some time to reflect and acknowledge all that we are grateful for. The little things are too often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of the city and hectic nature of the day-to-day. Having a holiday dedicated to giving thanks and a season celebrating the importance of gratitude feels more important than ever, and we’re welcoming both with open arms.
Something we never take for granted at Wise Wonder is the wonder of books. Our teachers are always eager to introduce our students to stories new and old. There’s something magical about knowing that every book has the potential to be somebody’s new favorite and to open up the door to a lifetime love of reading.
This week, we’ve been focusing on Thanksgiving books! This subset of festive reading is always fun because the stories range from the first Thanksgiving, to silly tales about turkeys, to deeper narratives praising the true meaning of the holiday.
The Wise Wonder family has compiled a list of some of our favorites to share with you! Take a look!
Turkey Trouble by Wendy Silvano
- Turkey Trouble is the story of one Thanksgiving turkey determined to outsmart a meddling farmer. With silly hijinks, elaborate illustrations, and plenty of farm animal fun, this book is a wild ride from start to finish. We recommend this book for children 3 to 5 years of age.
Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland
- Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks follows a child as they begin to understand the true meaning of Thanksgiving. We love this book because it acknowledges that, for children, most holidays at first glance are about one thing. For Thanksgiving, it’s food. Pie, turkey, you name it. But of course, Thanksgiving means much more. It’s a simple book with an important message. We recommend this book for children 2 to 4 years of age.
Five Silly Turkeys by Salina Yoon
- Five Silly Turkeys is an all-time favorite of our little ones. It’s a rhythmic book that follows five turkeys as they each get into mischief and disappear! This book has a familiar flow that children will recognize and enjoy from the first page. There are always plenty of giggles when we read this one! We recommend this book for children from infancy to 2 years old.
The Night Before Thanksgiving by Natasha Wing
- The Night Before Thanksgiving follows a family as they prepare for the big feast ahead! This story offers all the trappings of the perfect Thanksgiving book – cooking the food, setting the table, and giving thanks for the things that matter most. We recommend this book for children 3 to 5 years of age.
We hope you enjoy these celebratory stories as much as we do. Have some favorites of your own? Let us know! 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving!
