Happy New Year!

We hope you are all having a wonderful 2016 so far.  We have been getting ready for the year ahead – there’s so much to look forward to and celebrate!

We’re in the midst of gearing up for our summer camp, which feels very far away in light of the current weather in New York City.  But getting the ball rolling this early helps keep organized, and we know that organization is key to a successful program.

Our camp this year is centering around stories – their genres, authors, and the many ways a story can be told.  Our focus is literacy, and giving little ones the opportunity to be exposed to some of the greatest stories and storytellers in the world allows for open minds and great, big ideas to take hold.

One of our themes for the summer is classics.  In this day and age, children of all ages have access to classic literature being told in a way that is age appropriate.  One of the best examples?  BabyLit.

BabyLit takes stories such as Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and turns them into board books that teach developmental skills such as counting and vocabulary expansion.  The general story and characters remain the same, but are introduced in a way that is accessible for young children.  BabyLit is an amazing resource for children, and also for adults as it gives us the opportunity to bridge that love of reading and an appreciation for the classics at a young age.  Introducing these books could lead to a love for the expanded model later in life!

Be sure to check out BabyLit.  Its library is always expanding, and we know that these types of books will be seen more and more in the coming years.

Do you have a favorite classic that has been turned into a book for children?  Let us know!  We’d love to hear more.  🙂

Happy reading!
