eleven colors feeling,
ten shapes a-cutting,
nine shadows lurking,
eight tools for writing,
seven fishies swimming,
six stickers sticking,
five books to read,
four chirping birds,
three story maps,
two Play-Doh tools,
and a story under the tree!
The many colors of the rainbow can be difficult for children to remember, especially when they are first introduced. Wise Wonder has devised a set of color cards that depict not only the individual colors, but emotions as well. Our children love these cards. We bring them out everyday after storytime, and they can’t get enough of acting out each emotion.
Our color cards include eleven colors and emotions, beginning with the colors of the rainbow and branching out into neutrals as well. These cards allow children to experience and begin to differentiate between the colors early on in their education.
The emotions are a fun way to help children remember their colors and also get in touch with their creative side. We love seeing the way they interpret each emotion and which cards become their favorites. It is important to note that while some colors have psychological significance, our color cards do not combine a color with a representative emotion. Their sole purpose is to create an educational and enjoyable experience for our little ones.
To keep each child’s learning consistent, we provide each Little Hoot family with a set of our color cards. Their parents are always keen to let us know how much they love going over their colors at home, and their favorite emotions to act out. Check out Molly (pictured above) being Surprised Blue!
